**PRE-ORDER** Pocket Zine - Unmasking the Green Man

Within the world of modern folklore, few images are so iconic as the Green Man. Here at Hwæt!, we are fascinated by this omnipresent yet elusive figure. His image has always held a power for us. But we have not, until now, sat down to think about why it is that he resonates so strongly with so many people. Why his is a story we long to tell and retell.
It’s an image of unspoken power, of quiet resilience. The foliate head. The leaf mask. But delving deep into the figure’s mercurial past reveals a murky, convoluted origin that doesn’t always fit with the prevailing narrative. In many ways the Green Man is the perfect emblem for British folk culture, but his story is also a reminder of its hazards. Often the idyllic past we crave is nothing but a lie, and the heritage we look for is more of a tangled web than a traceable lineage.
The Green Man’s long history is a complicated one, and you come to learn that what he represents is not quite so simple as first appearances might suggest. In this special edition pocket zine, we attempt to unmask the Green Man, not to kill the power he holds over us or anyone else, but to enrich it by finally coming to terms with who exactly he is and where exactly he comes from. Because it is only then that we might know what story it is we are telling.
A6 zine, 46 pages, staple bound, printed on natural recycled paper.
