MAKE YOUR OWN BABA YAGA HUT - A3 CUT OUT ART PRINT

Today, Baba Yaga has become one of the most recognisable folkloric characters in modern art and pop culture. References to her can be found in the John Wick film series, the Hellboy comics and movies, the works of Studio Ghibli, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics, and even Marvel’s Ant Man and the Wasp, as well as video games like Castlevania (1986), Blacktail (2022), and the upcoming witch-sim Reva. These modern representations further highlight the character’s moral ambiguity – in some she is a villain or boogeyman character, in others she is a helper, a teacher, or even the protagonist.
Her house is just as enigmatic. In some versions the chicken or hen’s legs are numerous, whilst in others it has only two giant legs. It has been suggested that the house’s elevation is inspired by the tradition of huts built on stilts or tree stumps to act as storehouses. Others think it descends from the ancient practice of above-ground burials, in which a body would be entombed in a wooden casket held aloft on wooden stakes.

This Hwæt! designed cut-out art print can be transformed into a miniature chicken-legged Baba Yaga hut! Using glue or double sided tape, scissors or a craft knife (a sharp craft knife is recommended) cut carefully along the outline and fold accordingly, using the tabs to stick the hut together. Suitable for crafters and non-crafters of all ages!
Please make sure that all little ones are accompanied at all times if using sharp tools.

Printed on 350gsm heavyweight recycled card stock.
